Why a Global Day of Action?
From the Zapatist uprising in 1995
and the Seattle demonstrations in 1999,
a worldwide alliance of movements
against neo-liberal globalisation, war, patriarchy, racism, colonialism
and environmental disasters appeared.

Why now and why January 26th?
The idea of a global day of action is not new.
In the last years, several attempts tried to set up a day of action
which could became a reference for this new "movement of movements"
in analogy with May 1st for the Labour movement or March 8th for Women's day. Since 2001, the Wold Social Forum has become the main space in which all those movements meet and build alliances.
